Today was quite revealing on my facebook profile. This is in response to all the nonsense.
Shut down the behaviors! Stop the behaviors! Use a treat – inducement. Use a prong – Primary compulsive inducment. Use an ecollar – Secondary Compulsive Inducement. But they are all out there – screaming Skinners’ name – welcome to the fraud. If trainers used the right terms? The entire system would collapse under it’s own bullshit. $100 billion dollar industry gone.
How does psychology define punishment? It attempts to remove a behavior from an animals repertoire – suppress the behaviors. But what is suppressed can become unsuppressed when you least expect it. Anyone telling you to suppress your dogs aggression and reactivity? They are not only stupid – but downright dangerous. When someone gets hurt – do they get blamed for the shit advice – or are you the one on the hook for everything? Hrmmm? Funny how accountability works – trainers have none – but they need some.
A one paragraph quote from Skinners’ book – About Behaviorism – decimates the entire system of dog training. But you won’t hear a trainer, behaviorist or vet tell you this. Posted at the bottom. They all blame Skinner – a Radical Behaviorist – for the Quadrants of dog training… Why? So they can steal the behaviorist label.
On my page today, I had a psychologist “expert” come at me. Ok – like I tell everyone else – if you want to talk about it – we need to define terms. I asked her very simple definitions – then posted Skinner. I asked her to define Positive and Negative Reinforcement, define Operant conditioning. Define the word behavior. Explain where aggression and reactivity come from. This should be simple for anyone declaring themselves an expert in behavior. Haven’t heard back from her yet.
The first line of the intro to “About Behaviorism” states – “Behaviorism is not the science of human behavior – it is the philosophy of the science”. In that statement – Skinner wasn’t declaring himself an expert in anything – for what he gave to the world? He wasn’t that arrogant. Philosophy is a journey to understanding – and calling oneself an “expert” negates the needs to learn – negates the need for philosophy. Welcome to the scam of dog training.
Do you see group expert labels in here? We are not that arrogant. This group is about you – about your dog. Lets talk.
No – I am not a dog trainer, never trained a dog in my life. You will never hear me declare myself an expert in anything. But all there is today – “hire a trainer cause you can’t possibly do it on your own!”.
Do you understand why your dog is acting out? That is called diagnosis. And without the diagnosis – you’re not fixing anything – you’re throwing spaghetti at the wall hoping something sticks. That’s dog training in a nutshell.
And once you have proper diagnosis – the real underlying cause – you won’t need a trainer – cause you realize you are the only one that can fix the relationship with your dog.
Skinner – a Radical Behaviorist – would tell you to replace your dog with a child when it comes to behaviors. So do it – if your dog were human – would they want to be your best friend – “mans best friend”? Or would they run away from you. Would you train your best humans friends to recall with an ecollar? Nobody would want to be your friend. The dog isn’t the problem – the dog is not broken.
The system is broken – it was never meant to be used in the behavior arena at all. And all the treats, the prongs, the ecollars, the muzzles, the crates etc. Do you really believe that any true psychologist would push all this garbage? All of these are tools of IGP dog training – Konrad Most – not Skinner – but nobody wants to read the book to verify. Welcome to the scam.
