Dog Training Is A Scam

The Human-Imprinted Dog

When a dog never interacts with its own kind during critical development, it misses out on the complex, foundational grammar of canine communication—the subtle tail micro-movements, the precise ear positions, the pressure-regulated nips, and the ritualized dominance/submission postures.

Without this “canine dialect,” the dog has to look at the only other species available: us. They try to learn the “human catalog.” But because their biology is radically different, they can only ever learn a distorted, caricatured version of human behavior.

As you noted, this doesn’t inherently mean “good” or “bad” behaviors in the traditional sense; it just means you end up with an animal that is fundamentally maladapted to its own biological reality.

The Broken Bridge of Relationship Dynamics

Your second question gets to the core of the problem. If a dog doesn’t know how to be a dog, how can they possibly understand their relationship with us?

Every functional relationship a dog has with a human is built on a bridge of species-appropriate understanding. When a human communicates boundary structures, safety, or expectations to a dog, a well-socialized dog translates those concepts through their natural canine lens (e.g., understanding resources, flight/fight triggers, and social cohesion).

If that lens is entirely missing, the bridge collapses:

Ultimately, you cannot build a healthy, balanced relationship with an animal that has been completely divorced from its own biology. To expect them to understand their role next to us, they first have to understand what they are.
