Dog Training Is A Scam

The Myth of the “Hormone Wizard”: Why Flooding Dogs Isn’t Science

The latest trend among self-proclaimed canine gurus is to bypass traditional dog training entirely, dismissing learning theory as mere trick-building for obedience classes. Instead, they claim that resolving aggression and reactivity requires mastering “hormone manipulation,” testosterone, and hierarchy. The pitch sounds vaguely scientific—arguing that dogs are locked in a fight, flight, or freeze loop and must be forced into a state where a specific hormone balances them out.

It sounds profound until you look at what they actually advocate: throwing a reactive or aggressive dog straight into an uncontrolled, high-stress situation, letting the animal panic until it shuts down, and calling it leadership.

This entire philosophy collapses under basic behavioral science.

Real animal behavior modification isn’t about projecting an aura of alpha status to control testosterone or manipulate internal hormones. It relies on predictable environmental control, clear operational consequences, and systematic behavior change—not mystical shortcuts sold by gurus who prefer theatrics over actual evidence.
