Ivan Balabanov – Another Fraud. Lets Analyze One Of His Videos.

The Turf War Over Your Dog’s Brain: Exposing the “Incompetent Behaviorist” Myth…

When a multi-million dollar industry feels its foundation cracking, it doesn’t look inward—it attacks the threat.

Right now, the traditional and “balanced” dog training industry is facing a massive crisis of authority. For decades, self-appointed gurus have held a total monopoly over how we handle canine behavior. But now that veterinary science and behavioral PhDs are stepping into the light to examine the psychological fallout of aversive tools, the industry leaders are panicking.

A pristine example of this defensive posture comes from a video transcript by high-profile trainer Ivan Balabanov, titled “DOG TRAINERS VS. BEHAVIORISTS” – video posted below.

Balabanov’s message is clear: Don’t trust the scientists; trust the guys with the tools. Let’s dismantle the clever rhetoric used to keep dog owners compliant, confused, and disconnected from medical reality.

1. The Myth of the “100% Incompetent” Scientist

In the transcript, Balabanov makes an astonishingly bold claim: “while holding a PhD in animal behavior provides a broad understanding of dog behavior behaviorists are absolutely 100 percent incompetent when it comes to dog training.”

This is a deliberate smear campaign designed to create a false divide between theory and practice. The industry wants you to believe that a veterinary behaviorist is just an academic elitist sitting in an armchair, completely disconnected from real-world dogs.

Why is this a scam? Because it detaches the mechanical acts of training from the immutable laws of behavioral science. Training is behavioral science in action. By convincing you that scientists can’t handle real dogs, the industry successfully insulates itself from scientific criticism. If science doesn’t apply to the training field, then trainers are free to use whatever level of force they want without ever having to back it up with data.

2. Reducing Canine Trauma to a Lack of “Structure”

When confronted with the skyrocketing numbers of dogs suffering from severe anxiety, hyper-arousal, and defensive aggression, the transcript shifts the blame away from genetics or trauma:

“good trainers have long recognized that the majority of these dogs do not have pathological issues instead they simply need some structure and Outlet in their lives…”

This is a massive, dangerous minimization. By reducing deep, neuro-chemical or traumatic behavioral issues down to a simple lack of “structure” and “outlets,” the trainer achieves two goals simultaneously:

  1. They excuse the force: If a dog is just “acting out” due to a lack of rules, then a sharp physical correction is easily justified as a “boundary.”
  2. They protect the pipeline: If the dog fails to improve under this “structure,” the trainer can easily pivot and blame the owner for not enforcing the rules strictly enough.

3. Weaponizing Anti-Pharma Fearmongering

Perhaps the most damaging claim in the entire transcript is Balabanov’s assertion that putting dogs on psychotropic medication is “not only unprofessional but we can argue that it’s a malpractice on a big scale.”

This is pure medical gaslighting. When an animal’s brain is locked in a chronic, pathological state of fight-or-flight, its amygdala is hijacked. It is physically, neurologically incapable of learning. Veterinary behaviorists utilize medication not as a “lazy fix,” but to lower the chemical baseline of terror so that actual, humane learning can finally take place.

By labeling veterinary medicine as “malpractice,” the training industry actively scares desperate owners away from legitimate medical intervention. They want owners to see a vet prescription as a failure, ensuring the owner stays trapped spending thousands of dollars on training systems that use pain to suppress the outward symptoms of a internal chemical crisis.

4. The “Monopoly” Projection

Balabanov wraps up his lecture by warning against a “takeover,” claiming that veterinary behaviorists are trying to “monopolize the industry on the expense of the average dog owner.” He proudly states that experienced trainers “never restrict themselves because of ideology.”

Let’s call this what it is: psychological projection. The traditional training industry is the one defending its unregulated, highly profitable monopoly. When a trainer brags about “never restricting themselves,” they are spinning a lack of ethical boundaries as a virtue. Refusing to rule out tools that cause physical pain or psychological shutdown isn’t “open-mindedness”—it’s a refusal to evolve.

The Bottom Line: Get Off the Corporate Train

The “Dog Trainers vs. Behaviorists” war isn’t about protecting your dog. It is about the traditional training elite protecting their bottom line from the cold, hard data of modern science.

If a trainer has to spend their time convincing you that veterinarians, PhD researchers, and medical science are “incompetent” and running a “scam,” ask yourself a simple question: What are they trying to hide?

They are hiding the fact that behavior isn’t a matter of submission, dominance, or forced “structure.” It’s biology. And the moment you understand biology, the smoke-and-mirrors training empire vanishes.
