As a dog owner, have you ever heard of Schutzhund/IGP? The dog training sport of obedience, tracking and protection. Most have never heard of it – but are trying to apply it with zero knowledge of the system of IGP. And people wonder why it’s failing them? 20 years ago – that sport changed lanes and took over the behavior ring – and they brought all the tools of IGP with them. There are your treats, your prongs, your ecollars, the muzzle, the crate etc – this is all tools of IGP dog training. These are not a part of behavioral psychology – they don’t belong in your hands or anywhere near your dog.

IGP dog training is formerly known as Schutzhund. IGP is the dog training sport of Obedience, tracking and protection. But 20 years ago – they threw behavior into the title – and none are qualified to call themselves behaviorists. Go ask any trainer, any behaviorist or any vet to define the word behavior – especially if they are telling you to kill your dog. They can’t do it – they won’t do it. If you get the definition right – you expose yourself as a fraud – and that’s no good for the wallet.

Everyone tends to start out in Positive Reinforcement – cause hey – it’s the good one right? Wrong – so wrong. But when their definition of Positive Reinforcement doesn’t work on your dogs behaviors – and it won’t – you’re off to balanced training. And funny how you take the treats with you? Why is that? Let me explain.

There is no such thing as a “Positive Reinforcement” trainer – that’s the scam to drag you into dog training. People like Zak George are in reality the bread and butter for balanced training – AKA IGP dog training. Every trainer, every behaviorist and every vet blames B.F Skinner for all this dog training nonsense. But that is the big scam. They blame him so they can take the behaviorist label – and none of them have read any actual books from Skinner himself. They learn all about Skinner in schools and from other trainers – and it’s all wrong. Skinner had nothing to do with this garbage.

So how did we get here?

The man I call the father of IGP dog training – formerly known as Schutzhund – is named Konrad Most. Konrad wrote a book in 1910 called “Training Dogs – A manual”. He trained only German Shepherds for the WW1 effort – and he did so by hook or by crook. This is what became what you know as “dog training”. I will add a PDF copy at the bottom of the page – with the audio book. I urge you to read this book – at least chapter 2 – you will understand what you’re trying to apply as Skinnerian Psychology is a lie. Skinner himself openly opposed punishment – declared that it’s the reverse of reinforcing. So why are dog trainers blaming Skinner for the Punishment quadrants? There is a reason for it. To hide Konrad Most. Lets show some quotes from Konrad’s book – read it for yourself.

Dog training is all about reward and punishment – that’s not Skinner. Here is a quote from Konrad Book. This is where your reward and punishment came from. And by the way – you’ll hear the word discomfort mentioned many times by dog trainers. Again, not Skinner. Discomfort is mentioned in Konrad’s book 32 times. Hrmmmmm.

The real quadrants of dog training stem from Konrad Mosts book Training dogs. What are they you ask?

Primary Inducements, Secondary Inducements, Primary Compulsive Inducements and Secondary Compulsive Inducements. What trainers call Positive Punishment is Primary compulsive Inducements. Want proof?

Primary Inducement – there is your “have a treat” and affection. Look up the words. You are trying to bribe – to induce your dog to do something for you for a piece of food. Now ask yourself why you are doing this. Read the the book, you’ll get it.

Primary Compulsive Inducements – what trainers call “Positive Punishment”. Again, Skinner openly opposed punishment – he knew punishment didn’t work. But all we hear is shut down behaviors, stop behaviors – punish the dog.

Primary compulsive inducement – there are your prong collars, mechanical operations – crank and yank. The prong is what Konrad called Spike collars. And funny how Herm Sprenger was an associate of Konrads – and Herm of course created the prong collar. The ecollar wasn’t invented by 1910 – had it been, it would have been in this book.

Trainers like Zak George are really Primary Inducement trainers selling and pushing ONE QUADRANT of IGP dog training – formerly known as Schutzhund. And there is nothing positive about it – they are punishing the dog in ways you can’t understand. People like Zak are in reality IGP dog trainers selling you a load of horse shit. Cause when the treats fail – you end up using all 4 of the quadrants – and heavy on the primary compulsive inducements.

I highly encourage dog owners to read this book – then throw it in the garbage where it belongs. And I highly urge you to fire your dog trainer, your behaviorist and your vet cause they are all pushing the same garbage – that is Konrad Most. You need to understand a little about behavioral psychology 101 – not dog training. Dog trainers threw psychology in the garbage – there is no psychology to it at all.
